How To Get The Most Out Of Your Dog While Training

Dog Training

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Dog While Training.

Having a well-trained dog can provide your home with a happy balance. Your dog will be more predictable when he is trained in the right way. With a trained dog, you won't worry when you're together in public, you have visitors or he is home without you. Although not easy, the amount of time devoted to training your dog tricks and manner will be well-spent time.

Dogs will always be dogs, so expect his wild side to emerge if you do not give him proper care. Make sure your dog is properly fed, given a comfortable corner or bed to sleep and has a good place to run and be active.

For instance, you may want your pup to hold something in his mouth. When he does pick up and hold a toy in his mouth, reward him with a treat. Train him in stages. The next step is to wait and let the dog pick up the toy. Immediately thereafter, use the clicker and offer the reward. Now, reserve the reward for only those times he completely holds the toy inside his mouth.

To obtain optimal results, used treats that your dog loves. Great treats such as small pieces of cheese or a dab of peanut butter can go a long way.

When you are training your dog away from chewing inappropriately, remember to set him up for success. In addition to correcting undesirable behavior, you will also be protecting your dog from harm. Common items like curtains and hairbrushes are choking hazards that can kill your dog if you aren't vigilant.

You should always keep the tone of training sessions upbeat and positive with lots of praise. Remember to reward desired behavior achieved by your dog while training, especially in response to specific requests. Punishment will get the point across, but only when it is needed and the dog can understand what he or she is being punished for. If they don't understand, it may be interpreted as abuse, rather than discipline.

Stop your puppy from chewing on something inappropriate immediately if you catch him in the act. By doing this your puppy will learn which items he can and cannot chew then, when he is unsupervised, he will be less likely to chew your belongings.

Make sure you are having fun when you are training your dog each day. Playing with your dog helps build a stronger bond between dog and human, which encourages the dog to respond positively during training. While training is fun in itself, take some time to just play for enjoyment each day.

Most of all, dog training is about establishing the rules of the relationship, and, just as with a person, you will enjoy each other so much more now that these rules have been established. Keep in mind that you must continue to reinforce everything you have taught your dog. Refresh your dog's knowledge with exercises and remain strict. After your dog has learned the basics, you can work together more effectively to instill more complex behaviors.
